CSA

We decided to go in with Mike's parents and split a a full farm share at Miller Farms this summer.  I've always been interested in trying a CSA but was nervous about receiving 10lbs of radishes and beets that we'd never use each week and thus wasting money.  In most traditional CSAs you get a box that the farm has packed, evenly dividing that week's harvest among members, so you have no say in what or how much you receive.)  This program is set up differently from the other local farms - we got a cute little bushel style basket (each - a full share is 2 baskets) at the beginning of the season that we bring to any of their farmer's market locations and fill the basket ourselves, choosing the types of produce and amounts from whatever is available that week.

We've picked up twice so far and are totally loving it!  Fresh, local produce at a fantastic savings.  We paid $300 upfront in May (that was our half - the farm also offers independent half shares for $400 - still more than worth it - but encouraged us to split a full share when I inquired in early March).  It works out to just over $16/week.  We each get to fill a basket with as much as it holds and get a melon each on top of the full basket!  It's forcing us to add more veggies to our diet and try new recipes, which is fantastic!  Definitely recommend it to anyone in the area.
